"Altar Boyz"--tour Production of Off-broadway Sho

December 10, 2006 / by greatmartin

It's been a very long time since I saw a musical that I wanted to see again--Phantom, Lez, Cats, Lion King, etc., were all shows that I enjoyed the one time I saw them but never desired to see them again--I think the last show was the touring company of Ms. Saigon and after seeing The Light In The Piazza on PBS I wanted to see that live. (Of course, ACL doesn't enter into this conversation!)

This was the last performance on Altar Boyz here and if it wasn't I would get tickets to see it again. It had me smiling, laughing out loud, crying and applauding.

The show skewers everyone and everything--all stereotypes are taken on and hit the bullseye. Whether it's boy bands, Jewishness, homosexuality, rehab, Latins, rap, hip hop, rock, Broadway musicals, virginity, etc., it's here. The only thing I could think of that was missing was the dumb blonde stereotype.

The cast's energy is very high and they are very talented each getting at least one solo number to do their own thing. The music fit like a glove and the dance moves were done with perfection, many leading to out laughter.

I had gone in expecting a pleasant afternoon and here I am raving about it.

When and if it comes to your town see it!
