How Can the Bible Be Accurate?

July 1, 2006 / by greatmartin

It seems lately all I am reading about is how the bible came about--in nonfiction and fiction books, newspaper articles, etc.

In a religion column in today's newspaper Rev. Bob Coy says,

"I can also look at the historic, scientific and prophetic precision of the bible and realize that the odds of human writers hitting such a high degree of accuracy are just too high. Plus, the 66 books of the bible were written by more than 40 authors from various cultural backgrounds and social strata. The books were also written in different places and in 3 languages, on 3 continents at various times in history."

Why is this all of a sudden a 'hot' topic?

Your thoughts?

Man has always found fault with the Bible, since it was put on paper, probably before. But if you have faith and believe that God created the earth and the universe, then it isn't such a stretch to believe that God inspired and spoke through those more than 40 authors. These authors did come from various cultural backgrounds and social strata. That's what makes the Bible unique, I believe. Matthew the tax collector wrote about the life and miracles of Jesus, and Luke the physician did as well, but from a doctor's point of view. As far as I can see, this has been a 'hot' topic for a long time and something the mainstream media decided to focus on.

I've only just become aware of all the articles being written about this subject.
I only question the accuracy of the bible because today there are so many different versions of 'yesterday's' history, most distorted as to what happened and why.

Could it be that in our 'present' age of being able to 'pin point', archaeological info. with a far 'greater accuracy', that thoughts are moving to proving 'The Bible', as, 'History', with the modern assistance of i.e. satelite techno. ? After watching a documentary recently, on T.V. about finding out where, exactly, was, The biblical 'Garden of Eden', very interesting, indeed. I, would 'welcome',
    more info. of this ilk.
Your article, has given me, a lot of 'food for thought'.

ain't a hot topic to me. I l;ike the old testament for it is one great history of one of earths families. The new testament is too much of someone selling a point of view, trying very hard to make everyone believe that this is the only way to think and feel. Oh well,

But is it 'history'? Factual? Myths? That's what I am trying to figure/find out! [SMILE]

I equate the bible with "twas the night before christmas"...we'd all still believe in that too, if we didn't have to supply the gifts.

I think a lot of it comes down to the success of the Left Behind series and the Da Vinci Code. Religion was already there. Controvercial fiction and non-fiction has always had appeal. It has become a little more interesting as religious "war" in America has heated up.

Someone asked me how could I believe in the bible?? Well I think you have to posses a combo of strong belief in God & an equally strong leap of faith mentality. I may not be the most religious individual you'll ever meet..but I have no doubt that the bible speaks the truth and there is a God above who loves us[THUMBUP]

The Bible's accuracy can be vaildated by the many Old Testament prophecies which came to pass during New Testament times, mostly ones about Jesus Christ. A good book to read about this is "More Than A Carpenter" by Josh McDowell. The book has a section which states that for Jesus to have fulfilled just 8 of those prophecies, the chance of him doing that would be in 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000 (that's 17 zeros!). Jesus was able to fulfill more than just 8 of those prophecies. Considering all the prophecies that Jesus fulfilled, statisticians say it would be statistically impossible for those events to have happened by chance. That tells me there's some intelligence behind the Bible, because all those events didn't just come about by accident. Somebody (God) had to know about them ahead of time.
I wrote a page on our site about the book, and another page detailing just a few of the Old Testament prophecies Jesus fulfilled in his lifetime. Here's the link below if you want to check them out.

All you have to do is start reading it..Only then will your questions be answered, We can all say this and that, but until you start reading it for yourself, you will never really know.... Love ya Man[TONGUE]

I have read it and so much sounds like fiction to me and that has nothing to do with my faith--which is why I am questioning it--just trying to understand how much was written by man, how much is truth, what applied to only certain times, etc.
