"Blocking" on the New Blogster

December 15, 2007 / by greatmartin

As most people know with the 'new' blogster there will be a way of blocking people from reading and/or commenting on a person's blog.

To me it sounds so childish--'if you don't like what I say or disagree with me I will block you." It is sort of how teenagers over at myspace play with each other--"It's my football and if you don't play by my rules you can't play."

I have stated before that I would never block anyone from reading and/or commenting on my blogs--usually the remarks, though not meant to be, are funny--that if someone doesn't like what I have to say or annoys me I would just ignore them--that certainly is more effective than 'blocking'. Most people can't handle being ignored.

There have been two ocassions when people have asked me not to comment on their blog and I honored that request--I still will read what they have to say but without commenting.

And I, also, find laughable the threat of not letting me be a 'friend' or 'buddy'--again like the kids at myspace.

I assume at least 8 people will 'block' me--actually I would be disappointed if they (or more) didn't--might even request to be their 'friend' and/or subscribe to their blog just to see how childish adults can be.

Ummm--wonder if I will hold the title of 'the person most blogged' though there will be a lot of competition.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!!! LOL

I have not blocked anyone, but I have dropped a few people from my buddy list, because I thought they lacked the social skills to make constructive critical statements. All they wanted to do was try to get me to side with them. I don't take sides.

honestly I am happy they will have that. I don't mind if people disagree with me but I do NOT like it when people are just plain rude. On YouTube i have had people comment with things like "YOU SUCK", "I hope you die your videos is sh*t" etc. I mean If they would have just said ..."Hey I don't like this I think it sucks" fine I would be ok with that but to attack me in such a rude, unreasonable way is just uncalled for. I do not appreciate that. I try to respond to everyone in a respectful and decent way...I expect the same back. I do not think it is childish to want that back. Now I do understand where you are coming from...oh you don't agree with me so I will block you..I think that is childish also...and I would never block someone unless they were rude or disrespectful. I actually like to hear the other side of the coin so to speak![THUMBUP]

Ignore rude people and they will go away on their own--no need to block them--most of them are cowards anyway and run or block you!!![LOL]

I generally choose to ignore...it's easier for me and more effective a statement to the other person. But, I can see where some might feel more comfortable with the block feature because some people feel a sense of violation that's difficult for them to live with...some take insults much more personally. I hope to not ever have to use it, but it's not really a totally bad option.
