On The Backlot".
Disclosure: though I have seen many of the pictures of the directors mentioned in these books I have NEVER seen a Quentin Tarantino directed and/or written picture of his--much too violence for me!)
"Down & Dirty Pictures" by Peter Biskind and "Rebels On The Backlot" by Sharon Waxman.
Both books cover the rise and, sometimes, fall of independent producers and directors from the 80s to the 2000--also Robert Redford and the Sundance Film festival. They overlap in many cases but do take you behind the scenes of wheeling and dealing in movies.
While Redford takes some hits it is mainly the personas (and sometimes business dealings,) of Harvey Weinstein and Quentin Tarantino that stays with you..
Harvey Weinstein comes across as an egomaniac who destroyed people so they could get what they, and he, wanted. He is ruthless with people but, I guess you can say, that's what got him to be a leader in the business.
Tarantino comes across as a personally gross person who dumps friends, doesn't practice hygiene and is cruel to his mother--not a likable person at all.
Both books are interesting reading for looking at the independent film movement--a lot of name dropping along with naming names and much dirt (if you are into that--I am!:o)
