Renata Adler is an excellent critic and writer. These are a group of essays dealing with politics and media.
In today's (June 3,2006) paper there is a story about Wen Ho Lee getting a $1.6 mil settlement--in her introduction she foresees this--but she does fail when thinking 'deep throat' never existed and succeeds explaining 'resources'.
Her essays cover everything from Wateragte and Nixon, the whole Clinton/Monica/Tripp/Starr case, soaps on TV, how the NYTIMES was once a reliable paper and isn't anymore, Ohio and the National Guard, G.Gordon Liddy, Judge Sirica's lies, Pauline Kael's and how her criticism went downhill after joining THE New Yorker, her having to defend herself against the NYTimes--all in all about 16 essays ranging from 1976 to 2001.
She is intelligent, funny, bipartisan and has an objective eye.
Certainly worth reading!
