On Saturday, the 19th, the guys and their team played 3 games--there wasn't (well, much) rain so they pretty well stuck to schedule though they had only 5 minutes between two of the games while the eventually first place winners and 2 hours between 2 games, not that I'm saying there was anything unfair b-u-u-u-u-t-t-t-t :o).
The guys were happy (almost ecstatic) with second place so who am I to complain!
That night was the closing ceremonies which, in my opinion, were grossly mismanaged. Aside from all the 'necessary' speeches and the introduction of almost all the people involved they also inducted 10 people to the Hall Of Fame--aside from someone introducing someone to talk about the person being honored that person of course made a speech it just struck me funny that an organization that has only been in existence for 30 years has 90 people in the Hall Of Fame!!! Not even the Grammies induct 10 acts into their HOF in one year.
Finally what everyone is there for--the trophies and the winners! (Most people were out in the lobby--didn't the committee get the hint? Obviously not!) Unfortunately they presented them in the wrong order and each team left after they got their trophy and I really felt sorry for the last 3 or 4 teams.
In any case, seeing the Memphis Heat go up for their trophy made me forget the so far boring evening! :o)
Unfortunately, all the teams that had left before us had jammed up the restaurant I wanted to take them to and the wait was long. We decided to go to Lester's Diner--if for no other reason for Chuck to have a piece of the Black Forest cake (and, oh yeah, carrot cake for me!) Terry had a french Dip while Chuck and I shared a Rueban and a Monte Cristo.
They were responsible for bringing the trophy back to Memphis--you would have thought it was the Crown Jewels--and to them it is!
This morning they packed--being especially careful with the trophy--I think they put more tape around the box it came in then the trophy and that the tape weighed more than the box and trophy, though the latter is heavy.
They left for the airport around 1:15 and while I type this should be back in their home in Memphis. I MISS THEM ALREADY!
Tomorrow: The dis (and dising with) on Terry & Chuck--the former being my first time meeting him and the latter a great friend for over 25 years--PLUS my official weigh-in and how fat (or flufffy as Terry prefers to call it) THEY made me! :o)
