Any Cleaning Experts Out There?? I Need Help!

January 19, 2008 / by greatmartin

With Chuck and Terry coming to stay with me at the end of February I guess I'll have to do more than surface cleaning. I am saving the week before they get here for the 'poop cleaning detail' LOL

In the picture the chair on the right is the way it is suppose to look--the one on the left is dirty from wear and tear (any white spots you see are the bird's poop!!) I did test out some cleaning spray, "Woolite foam cleaner for fabric and upholstery" but it didn't work. I can't take the backs off and bring them into the cleaners because the buttons are sewn together.

Aside from throwing them out and getting new ones (it's not easy finding dining room chairs with arms these days) does anyone have any suggestions???

What about any of the oxygen cleaning solutions, such as oxyclean, Woolite makes one specially for cleaning up after animals. It has worked well for me on carpet. I found it at WalMart back with the carpet cleaners and solutions.

Martin, I have also used the Woolite OXY DEEP on my carpet and it works very well. I have never tried it on upholstery, tho'. As a last resort, you could have it professionally cleaned. Be sure to get an estimate first to determine if it would be cost effective. Good Luck.

It would be cheaper to buy them at Goodwill or some such place than to have it professionaly cleaned--it's that 'labor per hour' that gets you![SMILE]

Martin, can you get those steam cleaners to rent at your local supermarket. It only costs like $10, and it is does a great job getting at that deep rooted dirt. We ended up just buying one for the house. Our Lean Green Machine.

I think you will have better luck with treating it with a pre-spotter and then using a cleaning machine on it.[THUMBUP]

My two suggestions have been stated....one of those oxy type cleaners and/or steam cleaning (you can rent one). I also found a product called Hartz Help!. It is sold at pet stores (and in some pet departments of other stores). Mind you, I had no pets when I bought this product, but have used it and still use it on almost anything stained or discolored...it removed large burned-looking marks in a carpet, blood from a bath mat, smoke-discolored throw pillows, etc. of mine. It says right on the bottle, Pet Stain and Odor Remover, and in smaller print, Even Removes OLD Stains. It's specifically made for carpets and upholstery (I've even used it in the car.). Good luck to you. [SMILE]
