"Dancing on the Ceiling"

Every once in awhile, in the past year, I have posted the lyrics of some of my favorite songs--each has a personal meaning to me though I have never given the reasons.

This song, "Dancing On The Ceiling", as sung by Jeri Southern, (If you aren't familiar with her treat yourself and buy one of the many CDs she recorded) always takes me back to Hollywood, California--The Circle Bar on Hollywood Boulevard--late 1950s--I was still in the Marines--and I met whom I thought was THE one---of course, THE one would change so often in the coming years!! LOL

Writer(s): Comden/Green/Styne (Who have written some of the best music ever for Broadway shows like On The Town and movies like Singing In The Rain)

The world is lyrical
Because a miracle
Has brought my lover to me
Though he’s some other place, his face I see

At night I creep in bed
And never sleep in bed
But look above in the air
And to my greatest joy, my love is there

He dances overhead
On the ceiling near my bed
In my sight
All through the night

I try to hide in vain
Underneath my counterpane
But there’s my love
Up there above

I whisper, go away, my lover
Its not fair
But I’m so grateful to discover
That he’s still there

I love my ceiling more
Since it is a dancing floor
Just for my love
