Stewie Griffin

4/02/2008 1:19:00 PM.

Cartoon baby Stewie Griffin, from the animated comedy series Family Guy has been outed by the show’s creator Seth MacFarlane as gay.

In an interview with gay magazine, The Advocate, MacFarlane said the show’s writers have kept the character’s sexuality ambiguous because they could get jokes ‘from both sides’.

While the show’s writers believe Stewie is "almost certainly gay", he thinks the character himself is "in the process of figuring it out for himself".

The acclaimed show often features gay sub-plots exploring gay marriage, adoption rights and AIDS. MacFarlane’s other successful creation, American Dad features and alien character who, like Stewie, is also famous for his effete mannerisms.

Family Guy airs at 9pm Thursdays on Seven.

Yes, I have noticed the many gay sub-plots and have noticed how Stewie's character often suggests the possibility that he is coming-of-age in the "discovering sexuality" part.  Watching this self-discovery unfold will be quite interesting.

LOVE this freaking show!  Stewie is my favorite character on the show -- this is so cool! Smile

Is it true that Stewie's voice is played by the actor who portrayed Niles on the TV show Frasier??  I heard that somewhere.
