(For parts 1 & 2 see my blogs of May 17)
Just some brief background for those who are new to my blogs: I use public transportation to get around the city. My primary doctor and his 3 partners have 5 offices around the county. I am a night person going to sleep around 3 AM and getting up at 11 AM. Of the 5 offices 2 area little easier for me to get to in spite of the fact that the one doctor I like is only in those offices in the morning. In order to get to his office--and I always book the last appointment--I have to get up at 9 AM (Why don't I feel any sympathy from you people?!) and take 2 buses. One office which by car would take about 15 minutes takes about 40 minutes to get to and the other involving 3 buses takes about an hour+.
I decided to take a 'break' from all doctor's appointments July, August and most of September. Last week I made an appointment with my primary to have my blood work done and get referrals to my urologist, vascular surgeon and rheumotoligist. While I was there I mentioned that every once in awhile I get a tremendous itch in my left ear. He examined it and had the nurse irrigate it. By Thursday evening it really started to itch and on Friday it started to hurt. I couldn't get ahold of any of the doctors so I went on the Internet and looked for some ear ache cures. I came up with putting hydrogen peroxide in the ear a few times a day for about 5 minutes at a time. Also, to press hot compresses against it about every 2-3 hours. I had some antibiotic capsules which I have to take before going to see my dentist (I take a blood thinner and that is to prevent excessive bleeding while teeth are being cleaned) and I decided what harm could they do.
Between peroxide, antibiotics and hot compresses I was pretty busy all weekend, not getting much sleep because each time I turned and the left ear hit the pillow it hurt and I awoke!
Monday AM I called the doctor's office and Amy told me to come in the next morning and she would get me in to see him. Okay, today (Tuesday) I got up at 9 AM (I tried to go to sleep earlier but it didn't help finally falling asleep at regular 3 AM time) so I could uncover and feed birds, quickly check e-mail, glance through paper and get to the bus. I was at the office at 11 AM AND IT WAS LOCKED UP! I banged on the door and a woman (turned out to be the doctor's wife) and she told me that one of the doctors had the flu and was out (since when are doctors allowed to get sick?!~) and they had to shift office and doctors around. She suggested I go to the other office--easy to say but not easy to go.
Trying to make a long story short :o) after 3 buses and an hour+ I finally got there. When I walked in Amy, who usually works at the first office) took a felt pen, put an X on her cheek and said, "Go ahead and hit me!" Thank God for people with humor--how could I yell at her?
I went in to see the doctor and guess what??? He told me to use hot compresses and he would give me a prescription for antibiotics! DUH! Okay, he did say when I used the hot compresses to lay on that ear which I hadn't done. He didn't want to give me ear drops because he wanted to see if the ear cleared and there wasn't damage to the membrane.I go back to see him next Tuesday when he will see what the situation is.
I got back to my place at 4 PM---7 hours and 8 buses--to spend 2 minutes being told to do what I was already doing! And still having pain!
Hate to see what what the urologist, rhuemotolgist and vascular surgeon will come up with!
END OF RANT!!! :o)

I remember when little, yes I was, when I had a earache,my mother being a Italian immigrant, always heat up olive oil and then insert it in my ear.
Work out fine,if I recall.Ear ache can be very painful. The warm oil in my ear makes it feel soothing and warm.
Do not recommend this to you,use your own judgement.
Think postive and you will be fine,we have a lot of work to do.[SMILE][THUMBUP][THUMBUP][THUMBUP]
sorry for your rant. what a day!
i do admire people that use public transportation, though. if that helps. [WINK]
Luckily I have friends who take me for my weekly shopping, etc. I just don't want to take advantage of them so I do all my doctor's appointments by bus.
