"New Rules" by Bill Maher--Maher picks on everyone in a very funny way--if you aren't familiar with his 'new rules' from his HBO show you should read this--if you are you will read this--fast reading and laugh out loud funny.
"When I Knew" edited by Robert Trachtenberg and illustrated by Tom Bachtell--another fast and funny read with great pictures--it is made up of quotes from gay and lesbians (and sometimes relatives) about when they knew they were gay--2 quotes--"My father was watching the evening news. The announcer said that Judy Garland had died. I fainted. I was nine" Andrew Freedman "I was 7. My father took me and my family to see The Ten Commandments at Radio City Music Hall. We sat in the first row looking straight up at a perfect row of Rockettes kicking over our heads. That is when I finally realized what God put me on this Earth to be when I grew up: A ROCKETTE!" Don Scotti
"Dean and Me (a love story) by Jerry Lewis--from 1946 to 1956 Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis were the reigning kings of show business--between their night club act and movies--to quote Jerry, "Dean and I were not only the most successful show-business act in history--we were history."
I was a big fan of Lewis's comedy but didn't particularly like Dean though he was the rock the act was based on.
And that's what is wrong with this book--Jerry's ego--I loved him as a comedian but when he became a 'single' his persona was a complete turn off--in one breath he will talk about how great Dean was and in the next take the credit for it. And, of course, his love for Dean was stronger, more meaningful than Dean's for him according to him.
It's an interesting book just to read about their trail to success and the aftermath of their breakup but I still want to hear Dean's side of the story!
Dean's cheating on his wife was because that was the way the man was but Jerry's cheating is due to outside influences--at least according to Jerry :o)
Getting through, looking past Jerry's ego, it is an interesting read.
