Robert and James celebrate their 49th anniversary tomorrow (and I can't even celebrate a one-week anniversary!)
They met in Cleveland and 2 years later moved to Florida and bought their home which they still live in. Robert is 86 and James is 71--with a 15-year difference you know Robert robbed the cradle! LOL
Robert has had a rough last 2 years: a knee replacement followed by a hip replacement and in between fought (and so far has won) a battle with prostate cancer--and James has been there every moment helping and taking care of him.
Up until this year Robert worked as a door to door salesman for Fuller Brush going out 6 days a week in rain, hot weather and high humidity and wouldn't quit until he reached the quota he set for himself--even though sidelined he is still busy selling by phone--due to circumstances he can no longer drive and since James never learned to drive they have both had to adjust to a new way of life.
I was worried about Robert for awhile--he always had such high energy and the hip replacement in December really had him depressed BUT he has very quickly recovered going from using a walker then a cane and now not needing any aid.
James was a window designer--decorating one of the most prestigious women's dress shops on Los Olas and would go on to opening his own dress designer's shop.
I met them in 1980 and have cherished our friendship ever since!!
They love to travel--especially cruises-and they are collectors--and, boy, do they collect--from eagles to paintings to Remington statues not to forget pill boxes, decorative plates just to name a few things. And Robert has been a stamp collector since he was a boy and this past October auctioned off a few pages of his collection for a great place--and at 86 he is still stamp collecting and going to a stamp club meeting every Tuesday--he'll be collecting stamps for the next 86 years!!! (Just ask him!)
They are now planning a trip to Australia for their 50th anniversary.
Happy anniversary guys!!!
