"And the World Goes Round"

August 4, 2007 / by greatmartin

I was surfing the TV channels and came across the movie, "New York, New York"--stopped to watch it as I hadn't seen it in years--Kander & Ebb wrote the music and lyrics, which, included, the title song--they had been writing Liza's nightclub act plus a couple of stage musicals for her--I don't know exactly when she started screeching lyrics but she became a major turn off for me--I know, I know, that's an anti gay statement! LOL

In any case these are great lyrics about life.

Sometimes you're happy, sometimes you're sad
But the world goes 'round
Sometimes you lose every nickel you had
But the world goes 'round

Sometimes your dreams get broken in pieces
But that doesn't alter a thing
Take it from me, there's still gonna be
A summer, a winter, a fall and a spring

And sometimes a friend starts treating you bad
But the world goes 'round
And sometimes your heart breaks with a deafening sound

Somebody loses and somebody wins
And one day it's kicks, then it's kicks in the shins
But the planet spins, and the world goes 'round-
But the world goes 'round
But the world goes 'round

Sometimes your dreams get broken in pieces
But that doesn't matter at all
Take it from me, there's still gonna be
A summer, a winter, a spring and a fall

And sometimes a friend starts treating you bad
But the world goes 'round
And sometimes your heart breaks with a deafening sound

Somebody loses and somebody wins
Then one day it's kicks, then it's kicks in the shins
But the planet spins, and the world goes 'round
And 'round and 'round and 'round and 'round
The world goes 'round and 'round and 'round
And 'round!

I love that song Martin and enjoyed the movie very much. Martin Scorcese directed you know-very different style for him like the hilarious "After Hours." Did the version you saw have the edited musical number "Happy Endings" in it? If not there is a special edition of "NY NY" that has it.

Liza is terrific!!! I loved the stuff she did with Pet Shop Boys as well [THUMBUP][THUMBUP]

Meant to sway that HE was a real take off of Judy's number in A Star Is Born.

Though they panned this movie,I liked this a lot and nice to see Liza and Robert there, though felt that he was sort of uncomfortable in this role.[SMILE][SMILE][SMILE][SMILE][SMILE]
